Note for the Moderators
Posted
Dear Moderation Team,
I am making this thread to express my concerns regarding the recent ban on chatbots in global chat. I understand there have been issues with certain chatbots, but I think the ban is unfair to chatbots that don't advertise and are just for fun.
As you may know, chat bots can significantly improve chat activity and retention. They provide a fun and interactive way for users to connect with each other, giving some people the goal of building a "sensory" chatbot. Developed by community members willing to put in the time and effort, banning chatbots stifles that kind of creativity and innovation. We propose to lift the ban on chatbots and introduce stricter regulations and policies to ensure that chatbots are only used for charitable purposes. These rules may include guidelines on what chatbots can do and say, and processes for reporting and dealing with problematic chatbots.
We understand the recent problems with chatbots are serious, and enforcing these stricter regulations and policies will ensure that similar problems can be avoided in the future.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that unbanning chatbots will greatly benefit the community and the platform as a whole.I hope you will consider my proposal. I would be happy to discuss this further with you.
Sincerely,
Ishanjit Chandra Mitter

The ban on bots are really unneccessary, I am against this form of actions taken towards the bots
They are meant to improve the community. This type of action is unacceptable

anyone with an experience when it comes to developing bots put cooldown on the commands 90% of the time
the reason why the bot was even banned in the first place was because it logged chat, but there shouldnt be any problem since its within the community and any other bot also logs the chat in order to receive input
shadowbot in this case has a cooldown system
and shadowbot is very limited, it cant cause any destruction, global chat has a global cooldown and jon has put server-sided checks everywhere

Bots are a serious threat to the security of the forum. Until Jon can solve this security problem or work out a deal/api.
I agree with the decision to ban bots.

i agree but not, theres problems with bots as going too far, for an example somebody could make a dangerous bot or flood the chat. I would agree but up to a limit.

honestly i feel they should add different rooms with a bot or 2 for each that can be invited by the creator of the chatroom
