It's a pretty good start for someone you could call a Newbie, however there are some things I would recommend.
- Try switching from Windows Forms to Windows Presentation Foundation
- Replace FastColoredTextBox with either Monaco or Ace.
- If you can't switch to WPF, try adding a drop shadow and use a different framework extension like (GunaUI2).
- You should experiment with Segoe MDL2 icons for WinForms too.
Eitherway, forget what the others are saying. Just improve.
