Depends on what your into, but most of what i can recommend are on other smaller platforms like itch.io. If your into multiplayer games, i wouldnt bother with free lesser known titles are they are almost always littered with microtransactions. Indie story games are a bit more plentiful but maybe not on steam as not too many devs want to pay for steam to host their project while making no money.

Unturned is fine if you want a zombie survival game that also has multiplayer. CSGO went free a few years ago, though its more of a dedicated shooter. If you want a more social aspect, VRChat is free though its very "interesting". Warframe is a grindy game that can be fun if you invest time into it.
